The Western Cape Education Department has introduced a new curriculum 005,which aims to empower children to become more actively involved in the learning process. There is however, a shortage of culturally sensitive teaching material, for teachers to develop appropriate learning activities to meet the needs of learners in the area of health and hygiene. lt is important to gain in sight into childrens, s perceptions before health promotion material is developed
