Much of the traditional medicinal plant knowledge is to a large extent known by the older generations. This knowledge is at risk of disappearing due to not being passed down to younger members of the respective families and communities. The Bredasdorp / Elim area in the Southern Overberg has many individuals who possess such knowledge. The aims of this study were to identify what plants were in use in the area, to document this knowledge and to choose certain plants to test in antimicrobial bioassays.en_US
